26 July 2026

Operating today: ~17 MTPA • New capacity pipeline: ~61 MTPA

Evolution: Purpose-built → Barge-based → LNG Carrier Conversion → Deepwater Expansion → Standardised Multi-FLNG Export Hubs

Generation I – Purpose-built FLNG

🇲🇾 PFLNG Satu (Malaysia, 2017) — 1.2 MTPA

  • First commercial FLNG.

Generation II – Barge-based FLNG

🇦🇷🇨🇬 Tango FLNG (Argentina, 2019 → Republic of Congo, 2023) — 0.5–0.6 MTPA

  • First commercial deployment in Argentina (2019).

  • First commercially redeployed FLNG following relocation to the Republic of Congo (2023).

Generation III – LNG Carrier Conversion

🇨🇲 Hilli Episeyo (Cameroon, 2018) — 2.4 MTPA

  • First long-term commercial LNG carrier conversion.

🇲🇷🇸🇳 Gimi FLNG (Mauritania/Senegal, 2025) — 2.7 MTPA

  • Conversion concept replicated at commercial scale.

Generation IV – Deepwater Expansion

🇦🇺 Prelude (Australia, 2019) — 3.6 MTPA

  • Largest operating FLNG.

🇲🇾 PFLNG Dua (Malaysia, 2021) — 1.5 MTPA

  • Expanded FLNG deployment into deeper water.

🇲🇿 Coral Sul (Mozambique, 2022) — 3.4 MTPA

  • First world-scale FLNG in ultra-deepwater Africa.

🇨🇬 Nguya FLNG (Republic of Congo, 2026) — 2.4 MTPA

  • Modular execution and repeatable design.

Generation V – Standardised Multi-FLNG Export Hubs

🇦🇷 Southern Energy (Argentina)

  • Hilli Episeyo redeployment (existing FLNG)

  • MK II FLNG — 3.5 MTPA

  • ≈6 MTPA combined export capacity

🇦🇷 Argentina LNG (YPF–Eni–XRG)

  • Two new-build FLNG units

  • ≈12 MTPA planned

Key observations

  • Capacity: 1.2 → 3.6 MTPA

  • Barge concept: commercially proven.

  • LNG carrier conversions became commercially proven FLNG assets.

  • Water depth expanded from nearshore to ultra-deepwater developments.

  • FLNG assets can now be redeployed between countries.

  • Multi-unit developments are emerging as the preferred growth model.
