The Nguya (“Energy”) FLNG is a cornerstone of the Congo LNG project in the Marine XII concession, offshore the Republic of the Congo.
The massive unit, measuring 376 meters long and 60 meters wide, is moored at a depth of 35 meters. Designed with advanced technologies to minimize its carbon footprint, it sets a new industry benchmark for environmental performance. From contract award to sail-away, the FLNG was conceived, designed, and built in just 33 months, establishing a new sector record for time-to-market. Furthermore, its cutting-edge technical features enable it to process gas from multiple fields, making it a versatile solution for developing future resources as well.
This achievement follows the successful launch of the Tango FLNG (0.6 MTPA), which began production in December 2023 and has already exported over a dozen cargoes. With the addition of the Nguya FLNG (2.4 MTPA), the total liquefaction capacity of the Congo LNG project now reaches 3 MTPA.
This milestone represents a significant step toward Eni’s strategic target of expanding its LNG portfolio to 20 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) by 2030. By leveraging the flexibility, competitiveness, and geographical diversification of its equity projects, Eni is solidifying its position as a key player in the global LNG market.
Eni has been operating in the Republic of the Congo since 1968. The company, with equity production of approximately 70 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (kboed) in 2025, expects this figure to rise to 110 kboed in 2026. Eni is also pivotal to the country's energy infrastructure, supplying gas to the Congo Power Plant, which generates around 70% of the nation's electricity.
A Personal Insight: From my perspective, this remarkable milestone was made possible by Eni's strategic decision to integrate Chinese capabilities, placing the construction order with Wison. The yard delivered the complex vessel on time, meeting an exceptionally competitive schedule and budget. A true testament to effective partnership and execution. Well done to both Wison and Eni!
